Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty corrects eyelid imperfections, whether constitutional, hereditary or due to ageing, to soften a tired look around the eyes. The procedure removes excess eyelid skin and, where indicated, the fat pads. Dr Manon Belhoste performs this procedure in Marseille, from €2,000 to €4,500 depending on the number of eyelids treated.

The procedure

Dr Manon Belhoste performs three approaches to blepharoplasty, depending on the eyelids treated. On the upper eyelid, the incision follows the natural crease. On the lower eyelid, it runs just below the lashes, or from inside the eyelid, leaving no visible scar. The choice is made during consultation.

Upper eyelid blepharoplasty

Removes excess skin from the upper eyelid through an incision in the natural crease. A limited adjustment to the muscle or fat may also be added.

€2,000 to €3,500

Lower eyelid blepharoplasty

Treats the fat pads of the lower eyelid, which are removed, redistributed or repositioned.

€2,000 to €3,500

Four-eyelid blepharoplasty

Treats all four eyelids in the same procedure, with a strategy adapted to each eyelid.

€3,600 to €4,500

Blepharoplasty makes the eyes look less heavy and less tired by removing excess eyelid skin and, where indicated, the fat pads, while preserving the eye's protective function. It does not necessarily correct crow's feet, fine lines around the eye, pigmented dark circles, a drooping eyebrow or all the irregularities between the eyelid and the cheek. Depending on the situation, Dr Manon Belhoste may suggest not operating, a dermatological or medical treatment, a surface treatment, or an additional procedure on the eyebrow, the temple, the junction between the eyelid and the cheek or the volume of the face.

Before blepharoplasty, Dr Manon Belhoste recommends a consultation with an ophthalmologist, who checks in particular for dry eye or another eye condition that could change the indication, as well as an assessment of the visual field. Any eye disease, previous eye surgery, glaucoma, dry eye, thyroid disorder, allergy, chronic illness or current treatment must be reported. No medicine containing aspirin should be taken in the 10 days before the procedure, unless a doctor advises otherwise, and an anticoagulant or antiplatelet drug is never stopped on its own. Stopping smoking and nicotine is recommended before and after the procedure, as they interfere with healing.

After blepharoplasty, swelling and bruising are usual in the first few days, sometimes uneven, and a feeling of tightness, watery eyes or dry eyes may appear temporarily. Rest with the head slightly raised, with cold compresses for the first 24 to 48 hours, and do not rub the eyes. Strenuous activity and sport resume after 2 to 3 weeks, and the scars must be strictly protected from the sun during the first months.

The price of blepharoplasty covers Dr Manon Belhoste's fees, follow-up consultations after the operation, the anaesthesia and clinic fees at Polyclinique La Phocéanne or Clinique Phénicia.
