Testicular implants

Testicular implants consist of one or two implants, most often made of silicone, placed in the reconstructed scrotum to improve its volume, symmetry and appearance. Their role is to shape the scrotum: they produce neither sperm nor hormones. Dr Manon Belhoste performs this procedure in Marseille for French and international patients. Prices are still being negotiated with the relevant authorities and partner clinics.

The procedure

Dr Manon Belhoste places one or two testicular implants: a pocket is created on each side concerned and receives a silicone implant. The number, size and model are decided during consultation, depending on the volume of the reconstructed scrotum, the flexibility of the tissues, the scars and any operations already performed.

The procedure and recovery

Dr Manon Belhoste places testicular implants in Marseille. A consultation with the anaesthetist takes place before the procedure.

ParameterDetail
AnaesthesiaGeneral most often. Depending on the situation, regional anaesthesia or local anaesthesia while standing may be discussed.
DurationAbout 1 hour when the procedure is performed alone. Duration increases if another procedure is combined with it.
Hospital staySame-day discharge
EquipmentA suspensory is worn for about 1 month. It supports the implants and scars without compressing them.
Exertion and activityRunning, cycling, motorbike riding and intense activities are stopped for about 4 weeks. Return to work depends on your job, and is later for physical jobs or prolonged sitting.
ResultThe implant does not exactly reproduce the consistency, mobility or position of a natural testicle. An asymmetry or a difference in height between the two sides may persist. The scar is permanent, discreet and sometimes visible: at first red or firm, it softens over several months.

Frequently asked questions

Testicular implants improve the volume, symmetry and appearance of the reconstructed scrotum, for as natural and comfortable a look as possible. When the tissues are thin, scarred or not very stretchy, an implant that is too large increases skin tension and the risk of poor healing or exposure of the implant, so the final size may differ from the size initially wanted. It remains possible not to place an implant, to postpone the procedure or to keep a reconstructed scrotum without an implant, and this choice does not prevent the other stages of genital surgery.

Before testicular implant placement, Dr Manon Belhoste and the anaesthetist give instructions on fasting and medication, which must be followed without exception. Stopping smoking and nicotine is required: they impair circulation in the skin and increase the risk of poor healing and necrosis. All treatments and supplements must be declared, in particular anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs, anti-inflammatories, hormone treatments and diabetes treatments, and none should be stopped on your own. Skin preparation and hair removal are carried out only according to the practice's instructions.

After testicular implant placement, pain, swelling, bruising and a feeling of tightness are common in the first few days. Any prolonged or direct pressure on the scrotum must be avoided for at least 4 weeks, including prolonged sitting. The implants must not be pulled, compressed or handled during initial healing. Running, cycling, motorbike riding and intense activities are stopped for about 4 weeks, and baths and swimming for about 6 weeks.

Testicular implants are solid silicone implants. They have a shaping role and produce neither sperm nor hormones.

The implant can stay in place for a long time if there is no complication. Further surgery remains possible for displacement, pain, infection, exposure, or when the implant pushes through the skin (extrusion).

The price of testicular implant placement includes Dr Manon Belhoste's fees, follow-up consultations after the operation, anaesthesia, the implants and clinic fees.
