Brow lift

The brow lift, or eyebrow lift, raises a low or drooping eyebrow, most often its outer part, to open the eyes and rebalance the upper face. Dr Manon Belhoste performs this procedure in Marseille, from €3,500 to €4,000.

The procedure

The brow lift raises the eyebrow by removing a strip of skin or repositioning the tissues, then fixing it at its new height. Dr Manon Belhoste performs four brow lift techniques, which differ in the location of the scar. The choice is made during consultation.

Frequently asked questions

A brow lift raises the eyebrow, restoring a more harmonious position and shape, and opens the eyes. Depending on the technique, the effect applies to the whole eyebrow or mainly to its outer part. Forehead lines, lion lines and crow's feet may persist, as may excess eyelid skin. Depending on anatomy and the goal, the alternatives are having no procedure, botulinum toxin for certain indications, blepharoplasty when excess eyelid skin is the main issue, or another brow lift technique. Non-surgical treatments give neither the same degree nor the same duration of correction.

Before a brow lift, Dr Manon Belhoste asks you to report all treatments, allergies, illnesses and previous surgery. No medicine containing aspirin should be taken in the 10 days before the procedure, unless a doctor advises otherwise, and an anticoagulant or antiplatelet drug is never stopped on its own. Stopping smoking and all nicotine is recommended before and after the procedure, as they increase the risk of poor healing and necrosis of the skin.

After a brow lift, swelling, bruising, and a feeling of tightness, pulling or numbness in the forehead and scalp are common in the first few days, and itching may accompany nerve recovery. The eyebrow may look too high at first, especially after a lift just above the eyebrow, then drops slightly. Scars must be protected from the sun, hair colouring and chemical scalp treatments must wait until healing is complete, and follow-up consultations check the position of the eyebrows, healing and sensitivity. Sleeping with your head slightly raised is advised for the first few days.

A drooping eyebrow (ptosis) can increase the apparent excess of skin on the upper eyelid. A brow lift does not, however, systematically replace blepharoplasty: both procedures can be combined when the indication justifies it.

After a brow lift, the position of the eyebrow may drop slightly during healing and continue to change with ageing. A further gradual drop of the eyebrow remains possible.

The price of a brow lift covers Dr Manon Belhoste's fees, follow-up consultations after the operation, the anaesthesia and clinic fees at Polyclinique La Phocéanne or Clinique Phénicia.
